If you walked into the Indigenous Roots Cultural Arts Center anytime the first week of October, the atmosphere felt very much like a beehive, with volunteers buzzing about with cases of food and water.

The South St. Paul City Council was applauded Oct. 2 when it unanimously voted to revoke the rental license for a duplex that was the scene of the drive-by shooting in August.

Green light given to Highway 3 project


The Inver Grove Heights City Council granted municipal consent Sept. 28 to a reconstruction project on Highway 3 that will run from Highway 149 to Ann Marie Trail, and Highway 149 from Highway 3 to Rich Valley Boulevard, which is also County Road 71. submitted graphic

The St. Paul Fall Art Crawl is Oct. 13, 14 and 15, and if you’re looking to stay local, the East Side will have quite a few stops. At all the locations below, the crawl runs 6-10 p.m. on Friday, 12-8 p.m. on Saturday and 12-5 p.m.

Arden Hills site submitted as potential Amazon headquarters


Ramsey County officials have proposed that Amazon use part of the 427-acre Rice Creek Commons development for its second headquarters. Jesse Poole

Ramsey County wants Amazon. It made that clear when it proposed two possible locations for the Seattle-based online retailer’s second headquarters. One of those Ramsey County locations is in Arden Hills.

SNAPSHOT: Payne Avenue Poet Project unveiled


The Payne Avenue Poet project, a partnership between the East Side Arts Council and East Side poet Saymoukda Vongsay, wrapped up with a Sept. 15 poetry party and mural unveiling. The mural, which features people Vongsay met along Payne Avenue during the summer, is on the side of the arts council building located at 977 Payne Ave. The mural includes portraits and snippets of poetry created by Payne Avenue dwellers and visitors. More poetry can be found inside the East Side Arts Council’s office. Vongsay, who wrote her own poetry about Payne Avenue, said she’s still processing the experience, but said it was an honor to talk with people about their Payne Avenue stories.
