New tastes and sights at State Fair

Leave it to the Minnesota State Fair to entice guests with new foods hitting the stick and plunging into the fryers.

This year’s new lineup of foods includes bacon-wrapped grilled shrimp on-a-stick, deep-fried pickles dipped in chocolate sauce and grilled glazed doughnuts on-a-stick.

Recycle your old phone books

New phones books are beginning to arrive in Roseville. Remember to recycle your old phone book, and sign up to receive fewer books too.
Residents can put phone books in with all their other paper products such as newspapers, magazines, junk mail, and cardboard that are collected at the curb. Remove any  magnets from the cover first. Don’t include the plastic bag the phone book comes in. Plastic bags need to be taken to grocery stores for recycling.

Pool supply vehicle leaks toxic chemical in St. Anthony

A driver of a pool supply vehicle called police at 9:50 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 15, when he noticed toxic pool cleaning chemicals leaking from the vehicle.
The driver spotted the chemical leak while in St. Anthony Village near 37th Avenue NE and Macalester Drive. He quickly called 911 to report the leak and parked the vehicle.
According to a police department press release, the vehicle traveled approximately six blocks while leaking the chemical before stopping at 37th Avenue and Highcrest Road in Roseville.

Lauderdale gathers for community festival

Residents of Lauderdale will once again gather for the summer festival that brings the community together.
The Day in the Park Festival is from noon to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 17, in Community Park, 1885 Fulham Street.
“It’s a great community building event,” Jim Bownik, assistant to the city administrator, said. “It’s an opportunity for Lauderdale residents to celebrate summer and talk with neighbors and have great time.”

Roseville high school welcomes new SLO

Officer Lacey BlizekOfficer Lacey Blizek will be starting duty as Roseville Area High School’s (RAHS) new school liaison officer (SLO) this fall. Blizek was hired to replace officer Maureen Sikorra, who recently retired from the Roseville Police Department.
She will patrol the school fulltime in her new role as SLO, looking out for the safety and security of the school’s 2,100 students and dozens of staff members.
According to the city, Blizek has worked as a patrol officer for the Roseville Police Department for more than eight years and has extensive training and experience in several areas, including blood alcohol testing operator (DWI offenses), suspect interview and search and seizure cases.

Man who drowned in Roseville police chase identified

A Hennepin County medical examiner has identified the man who drowned in Farrell’s Lake after a police chase Saturday night as 37-year-old Andrew Paul Heim of Minneapolis.
According to a statement issued Monday from Roseville police, Heim fled police after being pulled over for a broken taillight at approximately 9:30 p.m. Aug. 10 near the intersection of Cleveland and Oakcrest avenues in Roseville.
Heim slowed initially but did not stop for the squad’s emergency flashing lights, leading Roseville police on a nearly 3-mile pursuit north on Cleveland. Heim was driving a 2002 BMW 530iA sedan without a rear license plate and was traveling north towards County Road E2, authorities stated.
