Karibu Grocery and Deli opens


Marjorie Otto/Review Karibu Grocery and Deli held its soft opening on Oct. 23. The Ali family, who moved to Railroad Island 18 years ago, has been working for more than two years to open the convenience store and restaurant. A grand opening celebration will be held in the next few weeks.

Managing Oakdale’s deer population


file photo Oakdale employs a metro area bowhunting organziation to control its deer population when it gets too large. Hunts are planned in early November at varous sites in the city.

Deer can easily become overpopulated in the metro area, where natural predators no longer exist and hunting is limited or prohibited by local ordinance.

Arden Hills welcomes National Guard headquarters


submitted photo Among others, Red Bull Brig. Gen. Lowell Kruse, U.S. Rep. Betty McCollum and Arden Hills Mayor David Grant broke ground Oct. 15 on a $40 million Minnesota National Guard Red Bull Infantry training facility in Arden Hills. It’s slated to be completed in 2020.

RAHS expansion and upgrades, $67 million worth, are underway


Mike Munzenrider Students broke ceremonial ground Oct. 24 on the near $67 million worth of work that will renovate and expand Roseville Area High School over the next three years. The work began in earnest on the other side of the building in September, with crews ripping up the school’s tennis courts to make way for a new science wing.

On a crisp Oct. 24, nine Roseville Area High School students donned hard hats and used gold shovels in a groundbreaking ceremony marking the beginning of three years of renovation and expansion work at their school.

Quilters holding sale to support their community work


Mike Munzenrider Muriel Anderson, a member of the Roseville Lutheran Church Quilters, cut the bunting for a quilt that will be sold in the group’s upcoming sale the weekend of Nov. 9-11. The quilters meet weekly at the church and donate their work to local organizations.

With winter coming, Har Mar eateries offer adventurous Asian broths


Mike Munzenrider A rosy red beef roll is added to simmering broth at Hot Pot 7 by Doan Nguyen, co-owner of that new restaurant in Har Mar Mall, where Vietnamese flavors rule and individual cooking pots are inset into tables.

An enlarging Asian dining enclave on the north end of Har Mar Mall features two new establishments where savory broths are boiling and eating adventures await. With chilly weather imminent, they are the places to go for inner warmth.
