Lake Elmo resident publishes historical Ojibwe novel


submitted photo • “The 13: Ashi-niswi,” by Lake Elmo author Lorin Robinson, is a historical fiction novel based on an old Ojibwe story about 13 teenagers seeking to restore the honor of their band after a devastating raid by their enemy, the Dakota. Robinson will read from his book on Thursday, July 19, at 7 p.m. at SubText Books, located at 6 West Fifth St., St. Paul.

Local authors create writing workshop for trauma survivors

Now they aim to help others who have experienced trauma. Acker-Halbur and Blaine Corrigan have designed two writing workshops, which will next be offered Aug. 4 and Aug. 18 in Lake Elmo.

While in the hospital for stage 4 colon cancer surgery, Alexis Acker-Halbur, a copywriter from Shoreview, prayed to the Great Spirit, asking “How do I live?” It was in that spiritual moment she had an epiphany.

Summerfest medallion found in Powerline Park

Two microbiologists from St. Paul, who work at Pace Analytical in Oakdale, were rewarded June 21 after sneaking out of the building on their lunch breaks throughout the week to look for the 2018 Summerfest medallion.

Updates planned for Interstate 94


courtesy of Minnesota Department of Transportation • The interchange where interstates 94, 694 and 494 meet will be under construction in 2019 and 2020. The map at right shows the flow of traffic during the first phase of construction in 2019.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation will be renovating a major interchange in 2019 and 2020, affecting east metro commuters and area residents alike.
