This year, PJW Automotive celebrates 35 years in business, longevity based on high-quality service and owner Pat Whelan’s enthusiasm for well-timed, consistent maintenance.

Regular maintenance keeps older vehicles running well and out on the road. For many, it's the most economical path, when compared to a monthly car payment with the increased taxes and insurance premiums, Whelan points out.

Budget for the life of your vehicle

PJW Automotive, located in New Brighton just a half-mile north of Beisswenger's on Old Highway 8, keeps detailed records of every vehicle's repairs, and its technicians will always be honest about what needs to be fixed immediately and what can wait. "We'll take care of your vehicle in the most affordable way possible," Whelan says.

With your technician's advice in mind, you can plan out maintenance and budget accordingly, instead of spending big money on unplanned and expensive breakdowns.

Either service advisor Mike London, a 15-year PJW Auto veteran, or owner Pat Whelan, with more than 35 years in the business, can best advise you on what needs to be done so you don't have to tackle that intimidating, 300-page owner's manual on your own. Just bring your vehicle in — car or light truck, American-made or import — a couple of times a year for a thorough courtesy inspection.

Planned maintenance saves money

Pay attention to the dashboard warning lights, Whelan warns; they are there for a reason. They transmit valuable information that will let you know when your vehicle is misbehaving.

PJW Automotive has the same level of diagnostic equipment as any Ford or General Motors dealership in the Twin City area, Whelan notes, along with the means to update your vehicle's sophisticated operating software in order to keep it running smoothly and avoiding costly tow-jobs.

Boasting full-wheel alignment capabilities, PJW also recently updated its car hoists, London says, in order to accommodate lifting newer vehicles, so they can be maintained and age, too.

Mechanics at PJW Automotive are ASE-certified and receive recertification each year through classes and web-based training.

The 35-year-old shop is active in the community as well. From Free2B, Inc., a program that supplies free car repair to needy families, to sponsoring teams in the Irondale Youth Hockey Association, Whelan recognizes the importance of giving back. "It's a good community to be a part of," he says.

A bright, spacious waiting area, complete with beverages, Wi-Fi, comfy seating and even a small male Pomeranian named Max, are there to keep you comfortable should you care to wait while your vehicle is being serviced.

Once the weather warms up, PJW even has a bicycle on call from nearby CARS Bike Shop so you can go for a ride while technicians keep your vehicle ready for the road.
