North St. Paul insurance company employee sentenced in $1.2 million embezzlement case


More than $1.2 million was stolen from the owners of Garry Insurancenter in North St. Paul.

A former Garry Insurancenter employee was sentenced to 41 months in federal prison for stealing more than $1.2 million from the North St. Paul based insurance company over the span of two decades.

Volunteers build dressers for those in need


Comcast volunteers partnered with Bridging, Inc. to build dressers for families transitioning out of homelessness as a part the 16th annual Comcast Cares Day, held Saturday, April 22. Volunteers worked on a variety of projects at 14 different sites across the Twin Cities, including Oakdale. In total, more than 100,000 volunteers participated across the country and around the world during the nation’s largest single-day volunteer event.

I scream for kids’ art at LUV Ice Cream Café


Aria, 4.5, of Oakdale and her mom, Olivia, attended the Art Opening at North St. Paul’s LUV Ice Cream Café April 29. The scoop shop features different artists monthly, and this May the students involved with the Tree-of-Life Home-school Cooperative are displaying their work. This is Aria’s first art show and her piece depicts Rapunzel in bright pink and yellow. The children’s art will be on display through the rest of May.

St. Joseph’s in West St. Paul says goodbye to three longtime teachers


Diana Ostrowski, Carol Day and Nancy Gagliardi have all taught at St. Joseph’s since the 1970s. The group of three friends will be hanging up their teaching hats at the end of the school year.

On the last day of school at St. Joseph’s Catholic School, the final bell will not only mark the beginning of summer but also the end of an era. At the end of this school year three longtime faculty members will retire.

Release the goats!


Goats were released into Indian Mounds Regional Park on May 2 to help graze away the invasive plant species in the park. The effort is a part of a partnership between St. Paul Natural Resources and the Great River Passage to restore foliage along the Mississippi River to the original, native plants.

Indian Mounds Regional Park has some new, friendly workers​

St. Paul has hired some 30 to 40 new employees — a flock of goats.
