Tri-City Red rolls is district opener

The Tri-City Red American Legion baseball team had little trouble in its Fourth District playoff opener Tuesday night at Midway Stadium. Second-seeded Red took care of seventh-seeded White Bear Orange 12-2 in eight innings.

The victory sends Red to a third-round match-up on Wednesday at 8 p.m. at Midway against Tri-City Maroon, the sixth seed that advanced thanks to a 3-2 victory over third-seeded Hamline Purple.

Against Orange, Tri-City Red scored early and often as it had runners cross home plate in each of the first four innings en route to an early 7-1 lead. Another run in the sixth and four in the eighth closed out the victory.

Tri-City starting pitcher Austin Smestad scattered six hits and gave up single runs in the third and sixth innings.
