Roseville East wins Legion playoff opener

The Roseville East American Legion baseball team doubled its Fourth District victory total by winning its playoff opener on Monday night at Midway Stadium. The Ramblers won a slugfest 10-9 over Hamline Red to advance to the double-elimination portion of the district tournament.

Ninth-seeded Roseville East won just one regular-season district game but its official district record goes into the books showing three wins because Arcade-Phalen was forced to forfeit a number of games because of the use of an ineligible player.

With the victory on Monday, Roseville East advances to the second round on Tuesday at 8 p.m. against top-seeded North St. Paul. The 39ers tied for the regular-season district title and drew the top seed based on a tie-breaker.

In the other first-round game on Monday, seventh-seeded White Bear Orange took care of No. 10 Arcade 6-1. White Bear takes on second-seeded Tri-City Red Tuesday at 8 p.m. at Midway Stadium.

The district playoffs continue through Saturday with the playoff champion earning a spot in next week's state tournament in Chaska.

The Rockets are the fifth seed and are playing Maplewood Green, the fourth seed, for the third time in three days. Rosetown and Maplewood played a doubleheader on Sunday to close out the regular season and split the double dip.
