RAHS advances to girls hockey section final

The Roseville Area High School girls hockey advanced to the section final for the fifth consecutive season by beating Stillwater 2-1 in the Section 4AA semifinals on Tuesday. The Raiders will take on top-seeded Hill-Murray on Friday at 8 p.m. at Aldrich Arena.

Roseville edged the Ponies by turning to Kate Flug and Sarah Knowlton for the offense. Flug put the Raiders ahead in the first period with a power-play goal off an assist from Knowlton.

Stillwater tied it up in the second period before Flug and Knowlton teamed up again. This time Knowlton got the power-play tally and Flug notched the helper.

The rest of the game was a defensive battle featuring a pair of stout goaltending efforts. Roseville's Brittany Boss and Stillwater's Brianna Hersom made 24 saves each.

Hill-Murray gets the chance to face Roseville on Friday thanks to its 3-0, semifinal victory over Cretin-Derham Hall on Tuesday.

The Pioneers are in the section final for the fourth straight year. In the last three section finals, Roseville has beaten Hill-Murray twice, in 2010 and 2012. The Pioneers got the best of the Raiders in the 2011 section final.
