Lake Elmo seeks volunteers for commissions

The city of Lake Elmo has immediate openings for volunteers to serve as commissioners on either the Parks Commission, Community Improvement Commission or the Lake Elmo Planning Commission.

The Parks Commission reviews and makes recommendations to the City Council on the future development of city parks, including the establishment of and improvements to the parks, and makes recommendations to the council on policies governing the maintenance and public use of the parks within the city. The Parks Commission meets the third Monday each month at 7 p.m. at Lake Elmo City Hall.

The Planning Commission is established to meet the requirements of state statute; to develop and enforce the Comprehensive Plan and amendments to the plan, subject to council approval and the requirements of the Mandatory Planning Act; and to review and make recommendations on subdivisions, zoning applications, planned unit developments and site and building plans as provided by ordinance. The Planning Commission meets the second and fourth Mondays each month at 7 p.m. at Lake Elmo City Hall.

All Parks and Planning Commissioners must be residents of the city of Lake Elmo; they serve three-year terms.

The Lake Elmo Ad Hoc Community Improvement Commission is open to anyone working or residing in Lake Elmo. The Community Improvement Commission meets quarterly or more often as necessary and they serve two-year terms at the will and consent of the City Council. The Improvement Commision investigates, makes findings and recommendations on matters referred to it by the City Council including: law enforcement, youth activities, prevention of drug sales and usage, chronic traffic problems and personal safety concerns.
