As senior population grows, so does the need for services


The East Side is served by two senior service nonprofits, North East Seniors for Better Living and East Side Elders. Both support seniors and their caregivers by providing resources like social events, transportation, wellness care, caregiver coaching, handyman services and other resources, with nearly all of it depending on volunteers. St. Paul Port Authority in the process of taking over Hillcrest site


The St. Paul Port Authority is in the process of taking over ownership of the former Hillcrest Golf Course in the northeast corner of St. Paul. Changes are happening at the Hillcrest Golf Course as the St. Paul Port Authority works to purchase the site. The development authority closed on the property on June 26 and will work to clean up and prepare the site for redevelopment.

St. Paul PD pumps up its traffic unit to deal with distracted driving


As the St. Paul Police Department increases the staffing of its Traffic and Pedestrian Safety Unit to combat distracted driving crashes, the department is also continuing its Stop for Me education events. During the events — which take place at problematic intersections flagged by neighbors — police officers and citizens cross the road, educating both drivers and pedestrians about laws and expectations. With four fatal pedestrian crashes already this year in the city, the St. Paul Police Department is working to crack down on distracted drivers while helping out pedestrians.
