Cities OK plans for County Road C rebuild


courtesy of Google Maps Work planned to begin in the spring of 2019 to rebuild County Road C will run from Highway 88 in St. Anthony to Long Lake Road in Roseville, as seen in red.

Ramsey and Hennepin counties are well on their way to reconstructing a stretch of County Road C in St. Anthony and Roseville, with work slated to begin spring 2019.

North St. Paul ‘lifer’ retiring after 11 years as mayor


Solomon Gustavo North St. Paul Mayor Mike Kuehn is retiring from City Hall at the end of the year, concluding 11 years in the office and nearly 30 years in North St. Paul politics.

The North St. Paul mayor’s office has been a seat of consistency. The mayor before last held the gavel for 30 years.

Temporary housing in churches to offer relief from the cold in West St. Paul


courtesy Google Maps graphic courtesy Skyler Gabel Three churches in West St. Paul, St. Stephens, Augustana Lutheran and Salem Lutheran, will open their doors in December and January as temporary housing for people experiencing homelessness, after the city council approved interim use permits for the places of worship.

The West St. Paul City Council approved a number of interim use permits Nov. 26 that will allow three area churches to be temporary shelters in the upcoming months.

Railroad Island home explodes


courtesy of Twin Cities Fire Wire A home in the 600 block of Payne Avenue in the Railroad Island neighborhood exploded Nov. 23, seriously injuring an occupant and damaging nearby homes and businesses. East metro social media users said they could feel and hear the explosion as far away as Woodbury, White Bear Lake and Roseville.

Fundraisers established to help those affected

 

East Side neighbors were shocked on the sleepy, post-holiday morning of Nov. 23, when a house in the 600 block of Payne Avenue exploded.

Dart Escape brings Nerf gun fun to Oakdale

With hand signals and in military formation, a group of Boy Scouts squared off against and eliminated a group of Boy Scout parents with tactical precision during a recent soft opening at Dart Escape on Hadley Street in Oakdale.

Rice and I-694 interchange project slated for spring


file photo Area elected officials have long sought to replace the outdated Rice Street bridge over Interstate 694. With state funding secured in 2017, work to rebuild the interchange is slated to begin in spring 2019.

Residents of the north suburbs got a break this year from major construction projects on the area’s biggest east/west corridors, though another one is coming up for 2019.
