Construction season 2019? It’s on its way

Plans are already in the works for one of  Minnesotans' least favorite seasons: road construction.

However, there's plenty of warning on this project: about 3 1/2 years.

Shepherd of the Hills celebrates its 50th

On Sept. 20, a local church  congregation will celebrate its golden anniversary. Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Shoreview is about to turn the big 5-0.
The first ever Shepherd of the Hills service was held on Sept. 19, 1965 at Island Lake School. 154 people attended this inaugural service. Fast-forward 50 years and the church is still going strong.

Cities are in the process of approving proposed tax levies for 2016. The levy numbers being approved are maximum increases — once approved, the numbers can be decreased but not increased before their final approval at the end of the year.

Ramsey County looks to ban indoor vaping

Ordinance would include e-cigarettes with Minnesota Clean Indoor Air Act

At the recent Ramsey County Board public hearing on an ordinance that would ban the indoor use of e-cigarettes in the county where smoking is already prohibited, speakers were 8-0 in favor of the ban.
The Sept. 8 board meeting was the second reading of the draft ordinance that would group e-cigarettes, the use of which is commonly called vaping, with other smoked tobacco products that are regulated under the Minnesota Clean Indoor Air Act.

City of New Brighton offers free bareroot trees for boulevards

The City of New Brighton owns and operates a gravelbed nursery of bareroot trees that were installed this past spring. The trees are generally 6-8 feet in height and are to be planted in city parks and along city boulevards this fall.
