Local emergency agencies hold active shooter training


Solomon Gustavo photo • First responders from around the region — including the New Brighton Department of Public Safety, Roseville and St. Anthony fire departments, the Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office and Allina paramedics, among others — participated in active shooter training at the former Korean United Methodist Church in New Brighton in late May.

The condemned building of the former Korean United Methodist Church in New Brighton has proven an apt site for Ramsey County and local emergency agencies to train for an active shooter in a big, public place.

Man wandering outside St. Anthony school taken on mental health hold, had shotgun in car

According to a joint release by the St. Anthony-New Brighton School District and St. Anthony Police Department, a man who may have been experiencing a “mental crisis” was found on Wilshire Park Elementary school grounds April 11.

St. Anthony approves Lowry Grove plans for redevelopment

Initial plans for the site boasted more than 700 housing units, but were shot down over concerns of density. The just-approved plans include 414 units.

The St. Anthony City Council approved the latest redevelopment plans for the former Lowry Grove, now being called the Kenzie Terrace & Stinson Parkway development, at its March 27 meeting.

SAVHS students join walkouts, hold Parkland vigil


Solomon Gustavo photos • St. Anthony Village High School students joined students nationwide in walking out of school March 14 to recognize the 17 students killed during the Feb. 14 Parkland, Florida, school shooting. Lily Vanner, bottom right with the megaphone, said the name of each Parkland victim, followed by a minute of silence.

Junior Emma Friend and seniors Natalie Spotts, Lily Vanner and April Dexter stood in the front office of St. Anthony Village High School a little before 10 a.m.
