Rice Street Gardens serves to unite old and new neighbors

Beloved Mikee the monkey, known on the East Side and beyond, passes away


photos courtesy of Roy Carlson Mikee the monkey, as he was known by many in the Twin Cities, passed away suddenly on Sept. 1. His “Papa,” Roy Carlson, said Mikee was just shy of 20 years old when he died of a heart attack.

A celebration of life gathering will be held Nov. 5

 

“The highlight of my life is gone,” said Roy Carlson, also known as “Papa” to his Mikee, who recently passed away.

Oakdale residents report hoax letter


The Oakdale Police Department sent out a hoax alert Oct. 12 about a letter some residents received earlier this month. The letter, seen above, raised a number of red flags — the phone number listed is not a city number and the city’s URL is misspelled — and should be ignored. Police department throws cold water on it

 

A letter received by Oakdale residents on Olson Lake Trail, purportedly from the City of Oakdale warning of a lurking chemical menace, is a well-trod hoax, according to Oakdale police.
