Harold Carver, businessman and last great-grandchild of early Maplewood settler, dies


On July 30, 2016, Harold Carver celebrated his 95th birthday at Red Rock Senior Living in Woodbury. He enjoyed his day surrounded by family and friends, and even shared a dance with his youngest daughter, Viktoria Carver.

On Jan. 17, Harold Carver passed away peacefully at Red Rock Senior Living in Woodbury, surrounded by many family members. He lived to be 95-years-old.

‘Into the Woods’ comes onto the Tartan stage


Tartan students rehearse for their upcoming Feb. 2 through Feb. 5 production of “Into the Woods.” A baker and his wife, played by Cody Arend and Mattie Albrecht, wish to have a child, but learn of a witch’s curse. The witch is played by Brooke Hafner. Meanwhile there is also Jack’s mother, played by Chaela Antonio, and Jack, played by Ethan Yang, who wish their cow would give milk.

North St. Paul plans for construction season


North St. Paul streets that will be improved in the upcoming construction season include: Belmont Lane between Eldridge Avenue East to Henry Street; Betty Jane Court; Burke Avenue east of Margaret Street; Charles Street North between South Avenue East and Belmont Lane; Eldridge Avenue East between Margaret Street and Park Row; Henry Street between Eldridge Avenue East and Parkway Drive; Park Row between South Avenue East and Parkway Drive, and Parkway Drive between Belmont Lane and Holloway Avenue.

Streets in the city’s southeast corner will be improved over the summer

The rumbling of dump trucks and road pavers will be familiar sounds for residents of the southeast corner of North St. Paul this summer.

North St. Paul’s Commerce Park project receives Met Council grant

The Metropolitan Council approved a $600,000 grant in December for the Commerce Park redevelopment project, which includes building an apartment complex on the eastern edge of North St. Paul’s downtown district.

North St. Paul church’s offerings stolen the week before Christmas


Sunday collection plate offerings were stolen Dec. 19 from Christ Lutheran Church located on East 17th Avenue in North St. Paul.

Members of Christ Lutheran Church in North St. Paul were saddened to learn the church was burglarized the night of Monday, Dec. 19, and the Sunday collection plate offerings were stolen.

On Dec. 6, the North St. Paul City Council passed the 2017 general fund budget and property-tax levy.

The 2017 general fund budget was set at $6,953,530, which is $44,378 more than the 2016 general fund budget.
