Jeffery Trevino trial moved to Sept. 16

On Monday, July 1, Ramsey County District Judge Leonardo Castro moved the murder trial of Jeffery Trevino, 39, to Sept. 16.
The trial was originally scheduled to begin July 22.
At an omnibus probable cause hearing in March, Trevino pleaded not guilty to killing his wife, Kira Steger, 30, in February. Steger reportedly had been planning on ending the marriage, and according to friends, Trevino was increasingly “suspicious” of what Steger was doing when they were apart. Her body was found in the Mississippi River May 8.


The 622 Education Foundation has scheduled annual “Fun Run”

The District 622 Education Foundation is seeking participants to register for its annual Fun Run, which will be held July 27.
“It pays to register early,” stated Fun Run chairman and event organizer Doug Ronsberg. He emphasized that early registration for the event will cost $20 per person - $15 for kids younger than 16 - if your registration is postmarked before July 13. There are also special rates for a family, up to four members, of $50 if the entry form is postmarked before July 13, or $65 is postmarked after that date.


Wow the crowd at the Ramsey County Fair Talent Contest

The White Bear Avenue Parade is definitely a must-go event, with the most floats, bands and marching units for miles around.

The Ramsey County Fair Amateur Talent Contest is open to anyone who is a resident of Ramsey County and is an amateur entertainer. The 2013 talent contest will be Sunday, July 14, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the fairgrounds. There are no auditions necessary for performers to take the stage.
Participants must register on or before Saturday, July 13, at 1 p.m. Entry categories are determined by age groups as follows: age 12 and under, age 13-18 and open class for everyone else. Prizes awarded in each category are $65 for first place, $45 for second place and $25 for third place.


Keller Lake Bridge construction begins

Construction on the Keller Lake Bridge over Highway 36 in Maplewood began Monday, June 17. The renovated bridge will have new guardrails, upgraded storm water ponds and easier pedestrian access.

Maplewood felon receives 15 years for gun possession

A Maplewood man was sentenced in U.S. District Court on May 28 to 15 years in prison for unlawful possession of a firearm. Derek Lee Preston, a 35-year-old career criminal and convicted felon, pleaded guilty to the charges Feb. 3


Oakdale man charged in connection with Woodbury burglaries

A 30-year-old Oakdale man has been charged in connection with two burglaries in Woodbury after a GPS monitoring device tracked the movements of a vehicle he was allegedly driving.


Highway 36 in Lake Elmo reduced to single lane overnight through mid-June

Overnight motorists in both directions on Highway 36 between Interstate 694 and one mile east of Demontreville Trail in Lake Elmo can expect delays until mid-June as the Minnesota Department of Transportation continues to work on shoulder removal and begins construction of a “J-turn” lane.
