Mustangs, Huskies headed to state cross country meet

Three teams from Section 5AA were ranked in the final Class AA boys cross country coaches poll last week. That meant that one ranked team would be left out of the state meet.
Mounds View was one of the teams that made the cut by finishing in the top two of the team standings at the section meet held Oct. 24 at Anoka High School. The Mustangs' 78 points were enough for second place and that was good enough to secure a berth in Saturday's state meet.

Mustangs avenge loss, advance to section final

There was a time in the late 1990s and early 2000s when Mounds View and White Bear Lake met in the section playoffs nearly every year. When the Mounds View High School girls soccer team started practice back in mid-August, the most recent prep soccer memory for most of the players was walking off the field following a first-round playoff loss to Irondale a season earlier. So when new head coach Terri Patraw told the team that it was going to get to the state tournament this fall, a certain amount of skepticism was understandable.

Wild victory doesn’t help Mustangs in seed department

It’s hard to imagine a more entertaining high school football game than the one Mounds View High School treated its fans to last Wednesday. The Mustangs came out on the winning side of a seesaw affair against Roseville on the night before the annual state teachers’ convention. The 50-47 contest left spectators nearly breathless and gave Mounds View head coach Jim Galvin his 100th career victory. One thing it didn’t do, however, was help the Mustangs in terms of section seedings.
