Building 280 is the latest addition to 3M’s Maplewood campus
3M opened its new research and development laboratory for viewing on Friday, March 11, during a grand opening event.
Attendees included Gov. Mark Dayton, U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar, U.S. Reps. Betty McCollum, Keith Ellison and Tom Emmer, Maplewood Mayor Nora Slawik, Maplewood City Council members, top leaders from the Legislature and Mattias Fyrenius from the Nobel Organization.
Building 280, the newest addition to the Maplewood-based company’s campus, cost $150 million. The four-story building is approximately 470,000 square feet, which is about the size of eight football fields in area. About 700 scientists and researchers will occupy the high-tech building.
On Feb. 26, 2017, the city of Maplewood will be 60 years old. In anticipation of Maplewood’s 60th anniversary, local history buffs have teamed up to write one story each week for the 60 weeks leading up to the anniversary.
Friends of the Parks and Trails of St. Paul and Ramsey County’s annual tree sale is now underway. Purchase a tree for your own yard or give one to a local park. Choices include trees, shrubs, a lovely rose, and a grapevine.
The Ramsey County League of Local Governments will host it annual conversation with Ramsey County legislators on Thursday Feb. 25 at the North St. Paul City Hall, 2400 Margaret St. The board meeting is from 5:30 to 6:15 p.m., from 6:30 to 7 p.m.
Caucuses will take place across Minnesota on Tuesday, March 1. The caucuses are an opportunity for residents to discuss issues, choose party leadership and delegates for the district conventions, and vote in the presidential preference ballot.
