Voters pass $117 million building bond in ISD 197

On May 8, voters in the West St. Paul-Mendota Heights-Eagan School District 197 passed a bond referendum for $117 million. It was approved with 62 percent of the vote.

Henry Sibley students join march to end gun violence in Washington, D.C.


courtesy of Janine Bauert • A group of students from Henry Sibley High School in Mendota Heights calling themselves MNeverAgain traveled to Washington, D.C., to take part in the March For Our Lives rally on March 24. The march was to raise awareness about gun violence in light of the recent school shooting in Parkland, Florida.

Trip to D.C. is a first step.

 

A group of 36 students and 10 chaperones loaded onto buses March 22 to begin the more than 1,000-mile trip to Washington D.C.

On Dec. 4, the West St. Paul-Mendota Heights-Eagan Area School Board unanimously voted to put a funding question before voters on May 8.

After eight busy years, Mark Spurr retired from the District 197 School Board.

Spurr served two terms on the West St. Paul-Mendota Heights-Eagan board, starting in 2008, and chaired his last meeting on Dec. 21.

Nine candidates were on the ballot Nov. 3, each vying for one of the four-at-large seats on the ISD 197 School Board.

The board will see only one new face, as three of the four winners are incumbents.

ISD 197 school board elections: nine candidates, four seats
On Nov. 3 residents of West St. Paul, Mendota Heights and part of Eagan will have the opportunity to select a majority of the ISD 197 school board.
The terms of current school board members Brenda Corbett, Joanne Mansur, Byron Schwab and Mark Spurr are set to expire Dec. 31. All but Spurr are running for re-election.
