Owen Dallavalle, a 2-year-old from Maplewood, placed third in the Minneapolis Strider Cup bike race on July 6.

The Strider Cup began in 2007 and is hosted throughout the world. This year, children from 20 U.S. states and three nations participated in the event, held near U.S. Bank Stadium in downtown Minneapolis.

Strider Balance Bikes don’t have pedals, and young riders propel them with their feet.

The 2-year-old racer category was sponsored by MedExpress Urgent Care. Minneapolis Bike Cops handed out freeze pops to the competitors.

Children between 2 and 6 years old could participate, the Strider Cup says.
