Oakdale Support Group for Families

National Alliance on Mental Illness Minnesota sponsors free support groups for families and friends of individuals living
with a mental illness in Oakdale on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month, starting at 6 p.m., at Canvas Health in
the community room. Led by trained facilitators who also have a family member with mental illness, the support groups
help families develop better coping skills and find strength through sharing their experiences. Canvas Health is located at

North St. Paul 50 year reunion

Hail Polars. North St. Paul Class of 1969’s 50 Year Reunion is Aug. 22 starting at 6:30 p.m.  It will be at Mermaid

Tartan class of 1979 reunion

The Tartan High School Class of 1979 is having its 40th class reunion on Saturday, Sept. 14, 2019 from 6:30 p.m. to
11:30 p.m. at Doubletree by Hilton St. Paul East. Cost is $20 if paid by Aug. 15 or $30 at the door. Appetizers are
included. There will be a cash bar. For details and payments see the Tartan Class of 1979 Facebook group. Doubletree by

Oakdale Library events

T(w)een Thursdays: This event is Thursdays, July 11, July 18, and July 25 from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Teens and almost-teens, come to the Oakdale
Library every Thursday this summer to curb your boredom and hang out with friends. There is a new activity each week,
plus Nintendo Switch and computer gaming. Bring friends or make new ones. Ages 10 and up are welcome. No
registration is required. 

Kalpulli Ketzal Coatlicue Dance: This event is Thursday, July 11 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Join others on Oakdale Library’s shady back lawn for an evening of
Aztec dance from the Kapulli Ketzal Coatlique. Enjoy this spiritual, mental and physical vocation with music from the
sacred drum, conch shells, seeds and other instruments. Driving drum rhythms and dazzling costumes will amaze you as
the dancers give life to the symbols of the dance. Bring a blanket or chair for this outdoor performance. In case of
inclement weather, the performance will be held inside. All ages welcome.  No registration is required. 

Bruce the Bug Guy!: This event is Friday, July 12 from 2 to 3 p.m. Bruce the Bug Guy will present a lively, hands-on program about insects and
related arthropods at Oakdale Library. Live critters and other fun props give the audience a unique opportunity to
experience these fascinating creatures in a close-up, interactive manner. This program is for all ages. No registration is
required.

STEM Saturdays: This event is Saturday, July 13 from 2 to 3 p.m. Learn about the lives of some wildlife animals and see them up close at
Oakdale Library. Animals may include a kangaroo, coatimundi, possum, kinkajou, porcupine and others. Presented by
Cock-a-Doodle Zoo, no registration is required.

Flat Stanley Party: This event is Tuesday, July 16 from 4 to 4:45 p.m. If you do not know who Flat Stanley is or how he became flat, then join
this special program at Oakdale Library. There’ll be games and activities around the book “Flat Stanley” by Jeff Brown
and decorate your own Flat Stanleys to take home. All summer long, take pictures of him on your summer adventures and

Science of Slime: This event is Thursday, July 18 from 1 to 2 p.m. Come to Oakdale Library to explore everyone’s favorite Non-Newtonian
fluid-SLIME. Investigate the physical and chemical properties of slime and learn about real-world applications in nature.
This program is recommended for grades kindergarten through fifth, but all ages are welcome. Children under 8 must be
accompanied by a responsible adult at all times. Drop-in anytime between 1 and 2 p.m., no registration is required.

Game On! A Game Night for Adults: This event is Thursday, July 18 from 6 to 8 p.m. Come play tabletop games with fellow game enthusiasts at Oakdale
Library. The library has a collection of games like Splendor, Carcassone, and Sagrada, or you can bring your own to
share. No registration is required.

Fandom Fest: This event is Friday, July 19 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Get your geek on at an exclusive after-hours party at Oakdale Library.
From ARMY to Hamilfans, Potterheads to Otaku, get in your cosplay and party with others. Ice cream sundaes, button
making, cosplay contests, Star Wars Escape Room, and more await you. Any and all fandoms welcome. Registration is

Super Smash Bros Ultimate Gaming Tournament: This event is Saturday, July 27 from 2:30 to 4:15 p.m. Compete with your friends at Oakdale Library’s Nintendo Switch
Gaming Tournament. Show off your skills in Super Smash Bros Ultimate for a chance to win. Space is limited to 24
participants, but spectators are welcome. Open to ages 11 to 18, registration required. Register online at WashCoLib.org/Events, at

Ollivander’s Wand Workshop: This event is Wednesday, July 31 from 1 to 2:30 p.m., and open to kids in grades third through fifth. Join the Oakdale Library to create your own unique wand under the guidance of an Ollivander’s assistant from
Artistry. Arts and crafts materials will be used to make unique individualized wooden wands. Registration
is required,and can be done online at

Lake Elmo Library events

LEGO Submarine: This event is Saturday, July 13 from 12 to 2 p.m. Test your design skills to see if you can build a ship that bobs on top of
the water, sinks to the bottom or floats just beneath the water’s surface in the wet and wild proving ground at Lake Elmo
Library. No registration is required.

RadZoo: This event is Wednesday, July 17 from 3 to 4 p.m. Hang out with RadZoo’s reptiles and amphibians in this super hands on
program at Lake Elmo Library. No registration is required.

Rap, Rock and Read: This event is Wednesday, July 24 from 3 to 4 p.m. Join Miss Nina at Lake Elmo Library for a rockin’ music program that
puts your favorite picture books to music with songs, movement and activities. No registration is required.

Summer Movie Matinee: This event is Wednesday, July 31 from 1 to 3 p.m. Enjoy the next best thing to the movie theater at the Lake Elmo
Library with surround sound and free popcorn. This summer, there’ll be one kid’s movie matinee a month.

Lake Elmo Farmers Market 

The Lake Elmo Farmers Market runs through Sept. 7 in the Lake ELmo Elementary School parking lot. The market will be Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The market will feature nearly 30 vendors throughout the season offering baked goods, books, canned goods, flowers, coffee, crafts, fresh produce, eggs, honey and more. Various special events are planned throughout the season in celebration of our 5th year.The Lake Elmo Elementary School parking lot is located at 11030 Stillwater Blvd N.
