Snakes and S’mores family campfire

Join Dodge June 24 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., for some family campfire time. Roast a marshmallow or two, or more. This campfire will feature what it’s like to be a snake living in Minnesota. You will even get to meet a live one up close. After learning about how snakes are not scary nor slimy, you may feel inspired to get hands on to see what scales feel like...or your kids can — no pressure. Science Monday

Live critters and other fun props give the audience a unique opportunity to experience fascinating insects up-close. Open to kids ages 5 to12, this is sponsored by the Friends of the Inver Glen Library. It will run from 1 to 1:45 p.m., June 24 at the Inver Glen Library, 8098 Blaine Ave. E.

 

Frogs and Toads

Join a Dodge Nature Center naturalist to explore and get hands-on experience with a different nature topic or animal each month. On June 25 from 10 to 11 a.m., at the West St. Paul Library, 199 Wentworth Ave. E, to learn about frogs and toads.

 

Town hall

Sen. Karla Bigham, District 54,  and Rep. Anne Claflin, District 54A, invite members of the public to attend a town hall meeting on June 26 at 6:30 p.m. at St. Paul Park City Hall, 600 Portland Ave. The legislators will be there to take questions and discuss the results of the 2019 legislative session, and to hear directly from constituents about their concerns.

 

Flea Market and hot dog cookout

Eat hot dogs and shop at the flea market.  Lunch includes hot dogs, chips, cookies and a beverage. This will be June 26, with the flea market running from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Thompson Park, 1200 Stassen Lane, West St. Paul. Lunch will be served from noon to 1 p.m., and costs $4. The JAM Band will be playing from 1 to 3 p.m. during the ice cream social. 

 

Make and Take: fair garden

Work together as a family to create a fun, potted fairy garden to take home. There will be one garden per family, and this is presented by the Friends of the Inver Glen Library. Registration is required for each family. Geared for youth ages 5 and older with their caregivers, it will run from 1 to 3 p.m., June 26 at the Inver Glen Library, 8098 Blaine Ave. E. Cops in the Park

COPS in the Park stands for Community Outreach with Public Safety in the Park. The idea of this event is to build positive relationships between our community and our public safety personnel. This is a fun and laid back environment to meet and chat with police officers, fire fighters and more. All community members are encouraged to attend this event June 26 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Weschcke Park, 360 Runge Lane.  

 

Adventures on the Oregon Trail

It’s 1848 and you’re in a covered wagon on a journey to the Willamette Valley. Play a life-size version of the classic game Oregon Trail. For kids ages 8 to 14, this will run from 1 to 2:30 p.m., June 26 at the South St. Paul Library, 106 Third Ave. N..

 

Big truck day

From 10:30 a.m. to noon, climb inside, touch and explore trucks and other vehicles from Dakota County’s large fleet of equipment. For kids ages 2 to 12, this will be on June 27 at the Inver Glen Library, 8098 Blaine Ave. E.

 

Summer STEAM

Join The West St. Paul Library, 199 Wentworth Ave. E to explore fun new STEAM activities each session and create a unique science-inspired project. Registration is required, and this is for kids age 10 to 16. The session on June 27 from 2:30 to 4 p.m., will involve a rocket balloon. Call 651-554-6800 for more information.

 

Word Whispering

Discover how there is nothing more interesting than words, especially etymologies.  The German philosopher Martin Heidegger thought that there were ancient insights and bits of wisdom to be found in the etymologies of words that cannot be found elsewhere.   Register by June 28 for the free introduction session on July 10 from 10 to 11 a.m. The session will run Wednesdays July 17 through 31 fro 10 to 11 a.m., at Thompson Park Activity Center, 1200 Stassen Lane. The cost for the three sessions is $9. Register by calling 651-403-8300.

 

Mobile Sign Shop

From 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., June 29, create your own customized, carved wooden sign, inspired by the cabin signs of Northern Minnesota. Presented by Ready Go artist Peter Haakon Thompson, this will be at the South St. Paul Library, 106 Third Ave. N.

 

Summer Strolling at Thompson Park

Thompson Park Activity Center, 1200 Stassen Lane, in West St. Paul, is located on beautiful acreage, with numerous trails both long and short, each deserving to be walked upon.  Come and join others for a leisurely stroll, void of speed or difficulty, but done simply for enjoyment and peaceful conversation as desired. There will be no pressure to keep up, no need to break a sweat, simply come and enjoy the outdoors.  Refreshments will be available around the picnic tables following the stroll. This will be Fridays from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Call 651-403-8300 to register.
