LETTER: In support of more affordable housing in Roseville

To the Editor:

On behalf of the Roseville Area League of Women Voters, I urge support for a project under consideration in Roseville for senior housing. Respected affordable housing developer CommonBond is proposing to build a 60-unit affordable, multi-family senior housing project on Rice Street and South Owasso Boulevard. The city council must rezone the site at their meeting on June 3 in order for this worthy project to proceed.

The League of Women Voters has long-held positions in support of affordable housing that resulted from careful study. Recently, we researched our local housing landscape and found there is a need for more affordable housing in our area. Many members of our League chapter participated in the public process as Roseville recently updated its comprehensive plan. We are pleased that the new plan incorporates many of our recommendations, including calling for “a broad and flexible range of housing choices within the community to provide sufficient alternatives to meet the changing needs of current and future residents throughout all stages of life.”

The Metropolitan Council helps produce and receives city comprehensive plans, but it’s up to us citizens to make sure our elected officials follow them. Please join the League in voicing your support for the CommonBond senior housing proposal.
