NEWSBRIEF: U.S. Service Academy info night

Interested individuals can learn more about the U.S. service academies and the application and nomination process during an April 16 info session at Mounds View High School, The Forum, 1900 Lake Valentine Road, Arden Hills, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The session is being hosted by 4th Congressional Rep. Betty McCollum’s office. Guest speakers will include representatives from the U.S. Air Force Academy at Colorado Springs, Colorado; U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, New York; U.S. Military Academy at West Point, New York; and U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, Maryland.

Every year members of Congress nominate qualified individuals as candidates from the districts they represent. Final appointment selections are made by each service academy. McCollum will begin accepting applications on Aug. 1 for nominations to the academies from interested students from the 4th Congressional District. The application deadline is Monday, Nov. 4.

During Academy Information Night, students will have an opportunity to ask questions, discuss the application process, and learn more about the programs, opportunities, and life at the academies. Materials and nomination forms will be available to interested individuals at the information session. The information session is open to anyone interested in attending a U.S. Service Academy. However, McCollum can only nominate individuals from the 4th Congressional District. Other congressional offices have been invited to outline the nomination processes in their respective offices and information will be available to determine the congressional district where you reside, and how to contact other offices.

In addition, the nomination requirements and application form are available at www.mccollum.house.gov/services/service-academy-nominations. Questions about this event may be directed to Connie Haddeland, U.S. Service Academy Coordinator, Office of Congresswoman McCollum, 651-224-9191.
