On Thursday, March 22, the Minnesota Public Health Association Leadership Committee announced that Rep. Ruth Richardson (DFL – Mendota Heights) was selected for the 2019 B. Robert Lewis Award, honoring her work for Health Equity. Previous award winners include Former Vice President Walter Mondale and Senator Paul Wellstone.

“I follow in the footsteps of some of our state’s greatest public health leaders in receiving this award,” said Richardson. “Their example guides me as I work to promote public health as a human right in all Minnesota communities.”

The B. Robert Lewis Award was established in 1979 to honor an elected official who has distinguished him or herself in establishing and maintaining health as a human right to secure optimal community and personal health. B. Robert Lewis served in the Minnesota Senate from 1973 until his death in 1979, during which time he carried significant legislation in health and social change.

An award ceremony will be held April 11.
