NEWSBRIEF: South St. Paul Mayor for the Day Essay contest

Attention all fourth- through eighth graders, are you interested in knowing what it would be like to be mayor of South St. Paul for a day? If you were mayor for the day, what would you do in South St. Paul? Here is your opportunity. Send Mayor Jimmy Francis a letter and tell him why you want to be the mayor of South St. Paul for a day and what you would do as the mayor. 

Details of the Mayor for the Day Essay Contest and letter forms are located at City Hall, on the city’s website at and have been distributed at the schools. Letters are due back to City Hall by Feb. 26. Francis will read all the letters and select one youth to be the 2019 SSP Mayor for the Day. The mayor for the day will receive a variety of goodies including dinner with Francis, along with four of your friends, a private tour of City Hall and an opportunity to help facilitate the March 4, 2019 City Council meeting.

New this year, the SSP Mayor for the Day will have the opportunity to lead a South St. Paul community service project with city staff and volunteers. This could be your project or one of the annual projects within the community.
