NEWSBRIEF: District 1 Community Council seeking board members

The District 1 Community Council represents the southeast St. Paul community, which includes the neighborhoods of Conway, Eastview, Battle Creek and Highwood Hills. The council serves as a connection between The City of St. Paul, Ramsey County and residents. District 1 Community Council is overseen by 15 community members who help weigh in on decision-making regarding the environment, land use, safety, communications, transportation, and much more. In March, the council will hold elections for seven open board positions on the council. District 1 residents and business owners are eligible and encouraged to apply. Positions are voted on by community members. No experience is necessary. The council seeks to involve residents who reflect the demographics of the neighborhoods. Board meetings are on the fourth Monday evening of each month and members are also asked to serve on a committee. District 1 staff are available to meet one-on-one to answer questions and talk about board duties. Board elections will be held on Saturday, March 23 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the District 1 Office, 2105 1/2 Old Hudson Road in the Sun Ray shopping mall. Elections will also be held on Monday, March 25 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Battle Creek Recreation Center, 75 Winthrop St. S. Residents will also be able to vote at the District 1 office during office hours, Monday-Thursday, March 18-21, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
