Edgerton Elementary School Student Council

Motivated and generous students from the Edgerton Elementary School Student Council recently raised $326 for the Renewable Energy Alliance. RREAL is a nonprofit in Backus, Minnesota, that focuses on making solar energy accessible to all people to address energy poverty. The student council voted to donate half of its donation to a solar project powering a hospital in Liberia and half to a local solar project that will reduce energy costs through renewable energy for a Habitat for Humanity homeowner.

Each year, the Edgerton Student Council organizes a fundraiser within the school during Spirit Week. Each day during the week that students choose to dress up, they are asked to donate $1 toward the fundraiser. This year was a record amount of money raised.

After the funds were raised, RREAL’s development director, Vicki O’Day, visited the student council to share the impact of its generous donation and about solar energy in the world. For more information about RREAL go to www.rreal.org or call 218-587-4753.
