What can I do to increase my dopamine levels naturally?



In our brains, dopamine acts as a chemical messenger, bringing the good news of pleasant things to come to our systems. Higher levels of dopamine mean a stronger sense of well-being — no wonder people want to raise their levels. Although there are pharmacologic ways — not all of them legal — to heighten dopamine levels, there is no need to get a doctor’s prescription to boost them in healthy people.

You can raise your dopamine levels by exercising, meditating or eating foods rich in the amino acid tyrosine. As you might have guessed, chocolate can boost your dopamine levels, but so can more sensibly nutritious choices like meat, fish, chicken and eggs. Bananas, blueberries and papaya are good choices, as are avocadoes, cauliflower, legumes and kale.
