Tapped and Uncorked returns

Five years ago, an upstart event to showcase Minnesota’s burgeoning craft brew industry was launched by the all-women board of the Friends of Roseville Parks to raise funds to enhance that city’s green spaces. Despite stormy weather so cold that the beer hardly needed to be iced, that first year drew about 700 people. The crowd is expected to be double that number at this year’s fifth annual Tapped and Uncorked, from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday, Sept. 28, at the Roseville OVAL outdoor skating center.

Here are the numbers to date: 23 craft breweries, five Minnesota wineries and eight distilleries in a special tasting tent showcasing local gins, whiskies, vodkas and bourbons.  Also, a ciderery or two, five food trucks, three games of skill plus Human Foosball, and a 10-piece band, Free and Easy, playing all evening.

Tickets are $35 when purchased in advance at Roseville City Hall or at the website, www.pourforparks.com — they’re $40 at the door. Entry into the spirits tent is an additional $15. The event is also seeking volunteers for two-hour shifts, who are rewarded with a brew fest ticket and a t-shirt. Visit the website to sign up to volunteer or call Leslie Norsted at 651-484-8980.

Backed by a number of sponsors, including new-this-year Old Dutch Foods, plus local banks and businesses, the event raised $30,000 in 2017 and hopes to do better in its fifth year. All proceeds go to projects in Roseville’s parks and recreation facilities.

Keeping up with the times, gluten-free brew and food will be available. Among the food trucks are Anchor Fish and Chips, Full Belly-Happy Heart, Tot Boss, Lake State Barbecue and Solo’s Pizza. Stillwater’s Lift Bridge is among the two dozen craft beers.

So is Tin Whiskers, owned by a Roseville resident, and Roseville’s very own Bent Brewstillery. A full list of participating vendors is on the website.
