SNAPSHOT: St. Paul’s Hmong girl

Foung Hawj and Rep.Tim Mahoney, who represent the East Side for legislative districts 67 and 67A, helped unveil “Nkauj Hmoob Lucy” Feb. 14 at the Community School of Excellence, a Hmong language and cultural school in the North End neighborhood of St. Paul. “Nkauj Hmoob Lucy,” meaning Hmong girl Lucy, will be sent to Changsha, China, this spring as a part of a sister city exchange between Changsha and St. Paul. She’s headed there along with other “Peanuts” characters. In return, Changsha will send a replica of its famous Aiwan Pavilion to be installed at Lake Phalen Regional Park. The “Peanuts” characters will be installed in Yanghu Wetlands Park in Changsha.
