LETTER: Gina Bauman worked for all the people of New Brighton

To the Editor:

I would like to take this opportunity to thank council member Gina Bauman for her years of dedication and hard work for the people of New Brighton. You have been the only voice of fiscal responsibility on the council and will be sorely missed.

Thank you for never forgetting you worked for all the people of New Brighton. You were never afraid to ask the hard questions that needed to be asked. You were never a rubber stamp for a political agenda. We appreciated your efforts to demand accountability, transparency, due diligence and common sense.

Thank you, too, for suing the city. It was outrageous that just a week after the 2015 election the council tried to illegally change the term length of the mayor and some council members under the guise of saving money. Reminder: A judge, in a 17-point court ruling, confirmed by the Minnesota Supreme Court, ruled the city illegally violated our rights.

The win for the people of our city was overwhelming and expensive but worse was the disrespectful and unprofessional treatment toward you from the the council. I am sorry more people didn’t defend you from the disgraceful treatment and falsehoods. The nasty, vindictive retribution toward a fellow council member who dared to stand up for the people of our city and the law was shameful.

Thank you, Gina Bauman, for fighting for so many of us. To the 2018 council and mayor ... we’re paying attention.

Sue Jeffers, New Brighton
