Local blood drives

There are several local blood drives coming up in July.

To schedule an appointment to donate, use the free Blood Donor App, visit redcrossblood  .org or call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767). The Red Cross has added more than 25,000 additional appointment slots at donation centers and community blood drives across the country over the next few weeks to accommodate more donors. Donation appointments and completion of a RapidPass online health history questionnaire are encouraged to help reduce the time it takes to donate.

South St. Paul Golf Outing

The South St. Paul Open Foundation announced its 43rd Annual Golf Outing is set for Monday, July 17, at Southview Country Club, 239 Mendota Rd. E. Registration and lunch begin at 11 a.m., with a shotgun start kicking off at 12:30 p.m.. Golf will be followed with dinner and silent and live auctions at 6 p.m.

As tradition, the South St. Paul Open Foundation will honor a long-time community member who has helped shape the district and make our schools a better place for all students. The 2017 honoree will be Paul “Moensie” Moen.  Moen will be recognized for his many years of service and commitment to the schools and community of South St. Paul.

Solar Power Hour

Interested in learning about Solar Energy? Solar Power Hour is coming back to Inver Grove Heights City Hall on Wednesday, July 19 from 7 to 8 p.m. Join this free, one hour session to learn about solar energy options for your home or business. Solar energy experts will cover new topics this year such as community solar, financing options and incentives, and energy efficiency improvements. The event will be held in Council Chambers. Inver Grove Heights City Hall is located at 8150 Barbara Ave.


 

‘Ask a Muslim Woman’ panel discussion in Roseville

Area residents are invited to come and engage in respectful conversation with three Muslim women from the Roseville area to help demystify Islam, and Muslim women, as they discuss their religion, traditions and experiences. The panel discussion will be held at the Roseville Library, 2180 Hamline Ave. N. on  Tuesday, July 11 at 6:30 p.m. The event is presented by Do Good Roseville in partnership with the Ramsey County Library and is part of a new bi-monthly “Ask A” series that seeks to give a voice to the underrepresented in the community by using personal stories from a diversity of life experiences. The series is a result of the positive response to the two “Ask a Black Man” discussions. The panel discussions are moderated by Nyia Harris, director of community relations for Do Good Roseville.


 

Fraud prevention seminar in Roseville

Protect yourself from being a victim of identity theft and fraud. Roseville police and Affinity Plus Federal Credit Union are co-sponsoring a fraud prevention session on Thursday, July 27, from 8 to 10 a.m. at Affinity Plus, 2570 Snelling Ave.

Experts from both the police department and the credit union will share tips on how to spot and prevent fraud and identity theft scams and discuss examples of scams that have happened right here in Roseville. They’ll also share information about what to do if you suspect you’ve been a victim of fraud or if your identity has been stolen. This seminar is free and open to the community, but space is limited so registration is requested.
