Pepper sprayed at SA

Two men, ages 19 and 21, caught some heat Jan. 4 at the SuperAmerica in the 1300 block of Larpenteur Avenue. The two parked at the gas station and a car full of women pulled up beside theirs. The men rolled down their window to speak to the ladies when one of the women shot some kind of pepper spray into the men’s car. St. Paul medics came and treated the men, who gave a description of the women and their car to police.

Between Jan. 2 and 8 police arrested five people in the Larpenteur Avenue and Highway 280 areas, for various equipment violations and driving with a revoked license. During a Jan. 3 stop at Larpenteur and Eustis Street, an 18-year-old woman, who was stopped for an equipment violation, was also cited for having a small amount of marijuana.

Little Canada

Attempted burglary

A woman discovered someone attempting to burglarize her home in the 3000 block of County Road C in the early morning of Jan. 14. The prowler, a man, ran off, having managed to steal a garage door opener. Police tracked footprints through the snow and along the way, they found a 20-year-old man sitting in a running car. He didn’t have a driver’s license, so police took him home, and are investigating whether he had anything to do with the attempted burglary.

Someone entered an apartment in the 2800 block of Market Place Drive Jan. 17 and went straight for the jewelry in the bedroom, taking it and the jewelry box it was kept in, all said about $600 worth of stuff. The woman who reported the burglary wasn’t sure if she’d left her apartment door unlocked; no other rooms were ransacked or otherwise disturbed.

Domestic assault

A 23-year-old woman was assaulted by a 24-year-old Minneapolis man she used to date Jan. 17 when the man showed up at her place, broke down the door and attacked her. The man fled the scene; police are investigating.

Florida man calls Little Canada lawyers

After months of harassing phone calls, Little Canada-based lawyers called police Jan. 11 to report a man had called them eight times that day, claiming the attorneys were responsible for forcing him to confess to a crime he didn’t commit. The phone number was listed as coming out of Florida.

Hit mailbox/extenuating circumstances?

Someone took out a mailbox in the 600 block of Keller Parkway Jan. 13, taking it down and dragging it some distance before depositing it in the middle of the road, along with one of the license plates from the offending car.

The 52-year-old owner of the mailbox turned the license plate over to the police, who ran the plate number and found out it belonged to a 27-year-old man from Little Canada.

The 27-year-old told police he’d swerved to avoid a deer but hit the mailbox. The younger man said he tried to contact the older man, who wasn’t home at the time, so, if you believe him, he left the mailbox in the road.

Theft from auto

Someone broke into a 22-year-old man’s car in the 700 block of Carla Lane Jan. 15, and made quick work using the credit card inside the stolen backpack before the man could even report the theft to police.
