Piano lessons ... in Little Canada?

Arrests, Thefts and more around Falcon Heights, Lauderdale, Little Canada, and Roseville - Roseville Review police reports January 17, 2017

Falcon Heights

Broken windows

The 22-year-old owner of a car parked at apartments in the 1800 block of Larpenteur Avenue told police Dec. 26 that someone smashed out a window and stole $275 worth of stuff. The cost to replace the car window is estimated at $100.

That same day at the same place, a 26-year-old woman told police someone smashed a window on her car. She’s also out $100 for the window, though her property loss was less, estimated at $110.

Also on Dec. 26, and a block away in the 1600 block of Fry Street, a 24-year old woman told police someone smashed out a window on her car, causing $100 worth of damage while stealing $58 worth of stuff.

Rounding out Dec. 26’s broken windows, a 27-year-old woman and 31-year-old man told police someone smashed their car’s window in the 1800 block of Larpenteur Avenue, at the same apartments as above, and rummaged through their car, though nothing seemed to be taken. Though there was no estimated loss for the broken window, it was likely around $100.

Burglary

A prowler broke into a house in the 1700 block of Pascal Street, as reported by the homeowner Dec. 27. The man estimated $2,700 worth of damage to a door, and had yet to compile a list of stolen items. The Ramsey County Crime Lab processed the scene.

Don’t let the door hit you ...

An angry customer kicked the glass door on his way out of the SuperAmerica in the 1300 block of Larpenteur Avenue on Dec. 26, cracking it in the process. The gas station management is going to give police security footage.

Gas/go

That SuperAmerica in the 1300 block of Larpenteur Avenue was out $25.50 when someone fueled and fled Dec. 28. Police were given the person’s license plate number. A similar incident happened New Year’s Day at the BP gas station in the 1600 block of Snelling Avenue when someone pumped $25.03 and left without paying. Evidently, the car had dealership license plates. Police called the dealership and now have a 20-year-old man as a suspect.

Lost and found

A 33-year-old reported his 2015 Toyota stolen from the area of Arona Street and California Avenue Dec. 29 — it turned up a few hours later in St. Paul, unoccupied and undamaged. Though the owner got his car back, he still had to pay to get it out of the St. Paul impound lot.

Plates found in Oakdale

A Falcon Heights resident found out one of his car’s license plates had been stolen after it turned up on a car in Oakdale on Dec. 2. The owner of the plate was given info on how to get it back.

Warrants for what?

A 60-year-old man was stopped for driving over the center median of the road at Larpenteur and Snelling avenues Dec. 27, and then was taken to the Ramsey County Jail for two outstanding warrants — one for no proof of insurance and another for failing to change the address on his driver’s license.

Lauderdale

Annual reminder

Be careful warming up your car — a 58-year-old reported her 2010 Toyota stolen from the 1700 block of Malvern Street Dec. 26. She’d started it up and left it running while she went back inside her home; the police report does not say whether or not it was locked. The car was valued at $15,000. And don’t just be careful; it’s illegal in Minnesota to leave a vehicle running with the keys in the ignition if you’re not inside it.

Teenage runaway

The mother of a 16-year-old girl told police Dec. 26 that her daughter had left Minnesota with her father, who did not have permission to take the girl and was in violation of a court order. The case is under investigation.

Tales of the unlocked

A 29-year-old man is out $3,360 worth of stuff after someone went into his unlocked car, sometime before Dec. 26, when it was parked in the 1800 block of Carl Street.

A 29-year-old woman is out her $150 bike after she left it unlocked outside apartments in the 2300 block of Larpenteur Avenue Dec. 29. She went inside, and when she came back out the bicycle was gone. Police have its serial number.

Little Canada

Broken window

A 39-year-old man told police he was angry with his 43-year-old ex-wife, so he smashed out one of the windows on her car. She reported it Jan. 7, and the man was arrested for felony criminal property damage.

Burglary

Returning home to her place in the 800 block of Windrow Drive Jan. 10, a woman thought things seemed strange so she returned to her car and called police. Officers arrived and while they found no one inside the house, it had been burglarized, with dresser drawers in upstairs bedrooms dumped on the floor. The burglar stole cash, but not electronics from the home.

Drunk and disorderly

A 48-year-old White Bear Lake denizen who’d evidently had run-ins with police before was taken to the Ramsey County Jail just before 8 p.m. from a bar in the 200 block of Little Canada Road. The man was intoxicated and causing trouble at the bar — he was arrested for disorderly conduct and an outstanding Ramsey County warrant.

Hit-and-run at Subway

A 26-year-old from Plymouth was parked outside Subway in the first block of Rice Street Jan. 5 in his Chevy Traverse when a U-Haul van parked next to him pulled out and struck his SUV. The man honked but the moving van kept moving — witnesses backed up his story to police.

Piano lessons?

In what was surely a scary if not bizarre incident Jan. 9, a mother reported to police that two men had entered her home while her sons were the only ones there — the oldest was 14 years old. The men evidently knew the garage door code and came in through the attached garage. They walked inside and encountered the two kids, claiming to the children they were there for piano lessons. The kids told them no one teaches lessons in the house, and the men left.

Snow emergency

A 72-year-old man who lives in the 2900 block of Valento Lane moved his RV and trailer one street over to make way for the snowplow on Jan. 9. The next day he went back and found someone had stolen his trailer — the thief had cut the lock and taken it away.

Stolen packages

A 34-year-old woman is out $120 worth of stuff after three packages, containing vitamins and what would have been a new purse, were stolen Jan. 9 from just outside her house in the 2300 block of McMenemy Street.
