November rain (and lightning) in Roseville

Arrests, Thefts and more around Falcon Heights, Lauderdale, Little Canada, and Roseville - Roseville Review police reports December 6, 2016.

Falcon Heights

Attempted fraud

A 79-year-old woman told police Nov. 18 that she’d received a call from someone about remotely accessing her computer. Evidently suspecting something fishy, she talked to her son, who confirmed it was some sort of scam. She canceled her bank accounts though no fraudulent activity was found.

Getting the boot

A man refused to leave apartments in the 1500 block of Larpenteur Avenue Nov. 18, so management called the cops. The man was told he was trespassing, and told to leave and not return.

Barking dogs break up burglary

A 47-year-old man told police Nov. 14 that when his daughter returned to their home in the 1400 block of Iowa Avenue she found the place had been broken into. However, the homeowner said nothing appeared to be missing or damaged inside — he credited the two dogs that were in the basement and their barking for scaring off the burglar. Still, the man will have to fix an estimated $2,500 worth of damage to a sliding glass door, where the break-in took place.

Drop off, pick off

An opportunistic thief nabbed a 47-year-old woman’s purse as she dropped her child off for school Nov. 15 at Falcon Heights Elementary. The woman brought her child in and when she returned, her car door was open, and she was out cash, credit cards, her checkbook and ID.

Paraphernalia bust, literally

Police stopped a driver Nov. 15 at Hamline and Hoyt avenues for poor driving and found the person had what’s described in the police report only as “paraphernalia in the vehicle.” The concise report concludes, “Paraphernalia destroyed.”

Service disagreement

Police were called to the SuperAmerica in the 1300 block of Larpenteur Avenue Nov. 15 because a customer was attempting to cash a money order, which the store does not do. The woman refused to leave, but once police showed up, she did.

Turn your lights on when it snows

Police stopped a motorist Nov. 18, during the year’s first snow, at Larpenteur and Cleveland avenues for failing to use their headlights during the storm. The driver got away with a verbal warning and likely a reminder: it’s state law that drivers turn on their headlights if they’re using their windshield wipers in rain, snow or any other precipitation.

Lauderdale

Between Nov. 14 and 20 police conducted three traffic arrests for various violations — the most noteworthy was a Nov. 19 stop in the 1700 block of Pleasant Street. There, police stopped a 28-year-old man, who was arrested and cited for driving with a suspended license, driving an uninsured car, expired registration and for failing to transfer his vehicle’s title.

Little Canada

Arrest

A 28-year-old man from St. Paul hit the road — on foot — after the car he was riding in with his girlfriend was pulled over Nov. 23 at Rice Street and South Owasso Boulevard. Though the girlfriend, a 19-year-old from Maplewood, who was cited for various traffic violations, said she didn’t know why her boyfriend had dipped out, when police finally caught up with him they found he had multiple warrants for his arrest out of Hennepin, Ramsey and Washington counties.

Grinch moves

Someone broke into a garage in the 300 block of Labore Road Nov. 26, and the 55-year-old owner of the garage said he was out $515 worth of stuff, including lights, heaters, tools and Christmas decorations.

Report and run

A woman called police Nov. 29 from the Public Storage facility in the first block of County Road B. On the phone, she told dispatchers her storage unit had been burglarized a month prior; when deputies arrived to check things out, the woman wasn’t there.

Robbery

Early in the morning of Nov. 26 a man was robbed by two women he’d met earlier on, in the 200 block of County Road B2. They’d been hanging out just fine when the women pinned the man down, stealing his smartphone and credit cards.
