Hill-Murray racks up state swim meet berths

The Hill-Murray girls swim team amassed 12 entries in last weekend s Class A state meet held at the University of Minnesota. A total of six different athletes accounted for all those state berths.

Five of Hill-Murray s state swimmers qualified for four events each.

Freshman Gabi Baldwin was one of those four-event swimmers and she earned state berths in two of those events by winning them at the Section 4A meet earlier this month. Baldwin won both the 200-yard individual medley and the 100-yard backstroke. She also swam on the Hill-Murray’s  200-yard medley team and 400-yard freestyle relay team, both of which were runner-up at sections.

Junior Amelia Berg earned Hill-Murray’s other section title as she took first place in the 100-yard breaststroke. Her third-place time in the 200-yard individual medley was also good enough to earn her a spot at state in that event, and she was also part of the medley relay and 200-yard freestyle relay teams that made state.

Madison Berg, a senior, also swam on the medley and 200-yard freestyle relay teams. In addition, she qualified for state in the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard butterfly.

Senior Lauren Forsythe swam at state in the 100-yard freestyle and in all three relays.

Freshman Catherine Nolde might have had the most grueling path to state. She qualified for state in the four longest races in high school swimming — the 500-yard and 200-yard freestyles, the 200-yard freestyle relay and the 400-yard freestyle relay.

Freshman Anna Monico rounded out Hill-Murray s state roster. She was the fourth member of the 400-yard freestyle relay team.

The Class A state meet was held past the deadline for this edition of the Review.
