Former Raider earns collegiate honor

It hasn’t taken Sara Hain long to have an impact on her college volleyball team. Hain, a 2016 Roseville Area High School graduate, was named conference rookie of the week last week.

Hain is a freshman on the women’s volleyball team at the Stevens Institute of Technology, a Division III school in Hoboken, New Jersey. Her performance in three victories helped earn her the weekly accolade.

Hain amassed a career-high 15 kills while hitting .429 and added six blocks as the Ducks beat Vassar in five sets on Oct. 5.

Stevens played twice on Oct. 8 and won both matches. Hain had eight kills and a block while committing only one error against Houghton and six kills and two blocks against Elmira.

Stevens is a member of the Empire 8 Athletic Conference, which also includes Alfred, Elmira, Hartwick, Houghton, Ithaca, Nazareth, St. John Fisher and Utica.
