Letter: ‘Political party power in local government’

To the Editor:

In the most recent New Brighton municipal election, the “DFL telephone system” was used to successfully replace an able mayor with someone unknown and inexperienced.

The calculated intrusion of a major political party power in our local government was disappointing. The resulting situation is not only one of internal strife and irrational decisions but wasteful expenditures.

An unfounded attack on probably our most effective council member — Bauman — resulted in community embarrassment when a court judge justified her position.

The Public Safety expenditures will have long term tax consequences even though we should be enjoying lower taxes as a result of years of investments and development in the city. Residents should be alert to the actions by this council pending the next election.
