Falcon Heights

Gas station heist

A man put roughly $10 worth of merchandise into a bag at the SuperAmerica gas station in the 1300 block of Larpenteur Avenue Sept. 13 and began to leave without paying. He was confronted by employees on the way out but ignored them, and got into a getaway car that was waiting outside. Police have the car’s license plate number.

Open bottle

Police stopped a couple at Larpenteur and Gortner avenues Sept. 18. The 52-year-old man who was driving the vehicle was arrested and cited for driving with a revoked license, fake proof of insurance and a cracked windshield — his scofflaw approach to things also extended to allowing his passenger to have an open bottle of booze, for which he was cited. Said passenger, a 30-year-old woman, was arrested and cited for the open bottle.

Stolen bike

Someone stole a 17-year-old boy’s bike from a garage in the 1600 block of Garden Avenue. It’s a bit of a loss — the bike was valued at $400.

Lauderdale

Locked or unlocked ...

On Sept. 17, a 48-year-old man reported someone had stolen his $100 bike, which was locked up outside the apartments in the 1600 block of Eustis Street. The next day, a 48-year-old man — it’s unclear if it’s the same person — reported another bike stolen from the same location, this time, though, the bike wasn’t locked up.

Tough lessons

Police stopped a driver in the 2500 block of Broadway Street Sept. 14 — the person, a 48-year-old woman, was arrested and cited for a learner’s permit violation.

Underage alcohol

Police arrested and cited a 20-year-old man Sept. 17 at Larpenteur Avenue and Fulham Street for speeding, driving with a revoked license and for underage possession of alcohol.

Little Canada

Burglary

Someone broke into an apartment storage unit in the 400 block of Labore Road sometime before Sept. 23. The 41-year-old man who reported the burglary figures the prowler stole some of his personal checks, because someone passed off a $500 forged check. When the crook tried to pass off another stolen check for $2,000, the bank was wise to the situation, and cancelled it.

A 58-year-old woman told police Sept. 25 someone broke into her storage unit in the first block of County Road B and took the makings of a nice and productive weekend at home: a sewing machine, a tool box, a PlayStation and a Blu-ray player.

Cocker spaniel attack

A woman called the sheriff’s office Sept. 15 from the mobile home park on Big Circle Drive to tell them she was attacked by a cocker spaniel after she went out to investigate the dog’s constant barking. When police arrived, the dog was gone.

Crack

Police investigating a report of a prowler in the 100 block of Little Canada Road early Sept. 25 noticed a car parked in what wasn’t a parking spot. Finding the situation suspicious, police looked inside the car, seeing what appeared to be crack-cocaine. Deputies laid in wait, and watched a man hop in the car and drive off. Officers stopped the man, who turned out to be a 28-year-old from Crystal, and booked him for felony possession of crack.

Fraud

A 45-year-old woman told police Sept. 23 that someone had written two fake checks from her account — she’s out $1,600.

Hotel, motel,

Holiday Inn Express

A 30-year-old man told police someone stole his 2008 Volkswagon Rabbit from his garage in the 300 block of Labore Road sometime overnight into Sept. 22. Making things worse, the thief took his $1,000 mountain bike as well. The car, but not the bike, turned up later that same day in the parking lot of a Holiday Inn Express in Vadnais Heights.

Oxycontin heist

Two men jumped the counter at the CVS pharmacy in the 2600 block of Rice Street the night of Sept. 23 and demanded employees open the safe containing narcotic medicines. One of the men held a knife to an employee’s throat and the two demanded the painkiller oxycontin. One employee opened what the men seemed to know was the wrong safe — they ordered her to open the correct safe. The men fled the store with various prescription drugs and were gone within two minutes of their arrival.
