Roseville football looking to unleash its offense

Scoring points was a problem for the Roseville Area High School football team in the first two weeks of the season. It won’t get any easier for the Raiders this week.

Roseville visits rival Mounds View on Sept. 23 and while the Mustangs haven’t been anything special offensively the last two seasons, they can still bring it defensively.

The Raiders enter the contest having scored only seven points in its last two meetings with Mounds View. Aside from 2013 when Roseville dinged the Mustangs for 47 points in a wild season finale, the Raiders have scored no more than 19 in a game against Mounds View since 2007.

Roseville’s last win against Mounds View came in the section playoffs in 2006. The Raiders also downed the Mustangs in the regular season that year.

Roseville opened 2016 with a 20-14 loss to Burnsville but was unable to score in week two against Stillwater. The Ponies needed only two second-quarter touchdowns to grab the victory.

Defensively, the Raiders have been solid. They gave up only five touchdowns in the first two games.

Roseville hosted Woodbury in week three, past the deadline for this edition of the Review.
