Driving in the dark in Lauderdale

Arrests, Thefts and more around Falcon Heights, Lauderdale, Little Canada, and Roseville - Roseville Review police reports September 6, 2016.

Falcon Heights

Brass knuckles and meth

Police arrested a 43-year-old at Larpenteur and Prior avenues Aug. 15 when he was found to be in possession of methamphetamine, brass knuckles and a revoked license. He was cited for fifth-degree possession of a controlled substance and misdemeanor possession of a dangerous weapon, as well as the license violation.

Feedback loop

A 25-year-old man was arrested and cited Aug. 15 at Larpenteur and Gortner avenues for driving with a suspended license, having no car insurance and expired tabs. He would not have been taken to the Ramsey County Jail, however, had it not been for the outstanding Ramsey County misdemeanor warrant for driving with a cancelled license.

No contact order violation

A 22-year-old man was arrested and taken to the Ramsey County Jail after an Aug. 19 traffic stop at Snelling and Larpenteur avenues. The man initially lied to police about his identity because his passenger, a 21-year-old woman, was the protected party in an order of protection against the man. He was charged with violating the order of protection, giving false information to police and for driving with a revoked license.

Street tent

Police received reports Aug. 18 about two protestors disrupting traffic at Larpenteur Avenue and Fry Street, in the area of where Philando Castile was shot and killed by a police officer during a traffic stop.

The couple had reportedly set up a tent off their parked car, which was blocking traffic. When police talked to them, the woman immediately agreed to move the car and the man who was with her said they’d leave the area, without being asked to do so.

Tobacco bust

The 38-year-old man working the counter at the BP in the 1600 block of Snelling Avenue was arrested and cited for selling cigarettes to a minor after police conducted a tobacco compliance check at the gas station.

Lauderdale

Broken windows

Someone busted out a car window in the 1900 block of Arona Street Aug. 21, causing some $200 worth of damage.

The burglar alarm went off at the BP in the 2400 block of Larpenteur Avenue Aug. 17, and when police arrived at the scene they found the glass front door of the gas station was shattered, with a gaping hole in the bottom. Station management arrived and told police that cigarettes and cash were stolen. Police are reviewing security footage from the station.

A resident in the 1600 block of Carl Street called police to report hearing loud banging overnight into Aug. 21. The next morning, the person saw that a prowler had smashed a glass panel next to a door. The cost to fix things was not listed in the police report.

Driving in the dark

Police busted a 17-year-old at Eustis Street and Larpenteur Avenue Aug. 20 for having the not-so-bright idea of driving with his headlights turned off. The kid was charged for the headlights violation, as well as a learner’s permit violation — he was supposed to have a parent riding along with him.

Gassed

Days after someone broke into the BP in the 2400 block of Larpenteur Avenue, the station had a “gas and go” theft. A driver made off with $36 worth of unpaid gasoline Aug. 20, but police have the vehicle’s license plate number.

Theft

An 88-year-old woman told police Aug. 21 that she inadvertently left a bag on a bench overnight outside her condo in the 1600 block of Coffman Street, and the next morning it was missing. Police found the bag, which still contained the woman’s wallet and driver’s license, but her credit cards and roughly $35 in cash had been stolen. Additionally, the woman told police she may have also left her door unlocked during the same time frame, and she was missing a laptop computer. The total loss is estimated at $800.
