Free legal assistance

Receive a free 30-minute consultation from a volunteer attorney regarding family law matters, such as domestic abuse, custody, child support or visitation. iPad basics

Use iPads at the Wentworth Library, 199 Wentworth Ave., E., West St. Paul, to learn about basic controls, settings, web browsing, apps and other uses of this popular tablet. The class will run from 10:30 a.m., to 12:30 p.m. For more information call 651-554-6800

 

Lemonade and coloring

Enjoy the fun, adult, social time to de-stress while coloring with colored pencils, listening to music and sipping some lemonade. On Wednesday, Aug. 17 from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m., a variety of coloring supplies and designs will be provided — just bring your creative side and a good joke to tell to Thompson Park Activity Center, 1200 Stassen Lane, West St. Paul. There is a $2 recommended donation at the door for treats, lemonade and start-up supplies. This event takes place the third Wednesday of each month. Please register in advance. Bingo

Join a monthly game of bingo with prizes and refreshments hosted by Custom Care Partners. No registration is necessary. Option: Bring quarters for playing. This event takes place the third Thursday of each month at the Thompson Park Activity Center, 1200 Stassen Lane, West St. Paul. August’s event takes place from 1 to 2 p.m., on Aug. 18. 

 

Northern Dakota County Republicans picnic

The Republicans of Northern Dakota County invite the public to a family picnic on Thursday, Aug. 18 at South Valley Park, 2810 70th St., in Inver Grove Heights. Food (hot dogs, chips, sides, desserts) and beverages are from 6 to 7 p.m. Starting at 7 p.m., there will be short talks from candidates running for office.

All family members are welcome, including children of all ages. The event is free but small donations to offset costs are always welcome.

 

Outdoor summer concert

Back for their seventh year, Mixed Precipitation will present a lively and fun musical adaptation of an operetta on Thursday, Aug. 18 at 7 p.m. Edible delights throughout the performance are part of this operetta experience. Bring a blanket or lawn chair to sit on and join Dodge Nature Center for this family-friendly musical evening at the Farm Entrance, 1701 Charlton St., West St. Paul. Homeward Bound — ‘Mother Goose Tales’

Homeward Bound Theatre Company will offer “Mother Goose Tales” Aug. 15-18 from 9:30 to 11 a.m., at the Kaposia Education Center, 1225 First Ave. S., in South St. Paul, where kindergarten through second graders will act out their favorite tales from a time long ago in this fun, whimsical class. Kids will take turns acting out these treasured tales of a time gone by like “Three Little Pigs” or “Simple Simon.”

Inver Glen events

Come to Inver Glen Library, 8098 Blaine Ave., Inver Grove Heights, for a computer class about Microsoft Word on Wednesday, Aug., 17, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. In this class you will learn to create a document using many of the Microsoft Word software features. Learn to format, set margins and save your document. Prerequisite: Computer and Internet Basics class and/or ability to use the mouse.

Inver Glen Library will host Waggin’ Tales on Saturday, Aug. 20, from 11 a.m. to noon; bring your kids to the library to read to certified therapy dogs. It’s not only fun, it helps develop reading skills and fluency. Ages: 5-10.
