Irondale clay target team captures title

The Minnesota State High School Clay Target League held its state championships earlier this month and the team from Irondale High School brought home a title.

Competing in Class 3A, the Knights amassed a team score of 473 and edged runner-up Hibbing by seven points for the state championship.

The clay target league held its state tournament from June 14-21 at Alexandria Shooting Park in Alexandria, Minn. Irondale and the rest of the Class 3A teams competed on June 16.

In addition to the team title, Irondale recorded some solid individual performances. Ryan Sully earned all-state honors by posting the top individual score in the varsity division. His score of 98 put him two points ahead of the co-runners-up, one of whom was teammate Adam Bohlman.

Joining Sully and Bohlman at state from Irondale were Jack Harris, John Bina, Jacob Brown, Jake Spencer and Ty Cobb.

By winning the clay target league championship, Irondale earned the right to compete in the Minnesota State High School League’s clay target state tournament on June 25 at the Minneapolis Gun Club in Prior Lake.

The MSHSL state meet doesn’t divide teams into classes so Irondale competed against 37 other teams. The Knights finished 23rd in the team competition.

Sully qualified for the individual portion of the MSHSL state meet and finished 96th.
