Section tennis update

The three Review-area boys tennis teams opened up the post-season last week but, unfortunately, their playoff runs were short-lived. All three fell in the first round of the Section 4AA team tournament on May 17.

Hill-Murray was the highest seed of the three teams at No. 9 and opened the tournament at eighth-seeded St. Paul Como Park. The Pioneers won a pair of matches but fell 5-2 to the Cougars. Como Park went on to lose 7-0 to top-seeded Mounds View in the quarterfinals.

Tartan, the 10th seed, visited seventh-seeded Roseville and lost 6-1. The Raiders then fell 4-3 to second-seeded Centennial in the quarterfinals.

North, seeded 13th, lost 7-0 to fourth-seeded Stillwater. The Ponies followed up the victory by taking down fifth-seeded St. Paul Harding 5-2 in the quarterfinals.

The section tournament continues with the semifinals on May 23. Mounds View hosts Stillwater and Centennial welcomes Mahtomedi, a 6-1 winner over White Bear Lake in the quarterfinals.

The two semifinal winners advance to the section final on May 25 at 3:30 p.m. at the University of Minnesota’s Baseline Tennis Center.

Next up for the Review-area teams are the section singles and doubles championships on May 26 and 31, which are also at the University of Minnesota’s Baseline Tennis Center.
