Candidate filing opened May 17

Candidate filing for national, state and local offices opened May 17 and runs through the last day of the month, May 31. 

On Nov. 8, Election Day, Bulletin area residents will see a host of seats that need filling, including U.S. and Minnesota House of Representatives seats, as well as positions on the Ramsey County Board of Commissioners and several city council seats. 

The following Bulletin area elected positions are in play this fall:

• The U.S. Congress District 4 seat currently held by Rep. Betty McCollum. 

• The U.S. Congress District 4 seat currently held by Rep. Keith Ellison

• The Minnesota Senate District 41 seat currently held by Sen. Barb Goodwin.

• The Minnesota Senate District 42 seat currently held by Sen. Bev Scalze. 

• The Minnesota House District 41A seat currently held by Rep. Connie Bernardy. 

• The Minnesota House District 42A seat currently held by Rep. Carolyn Laine.

• The Minnesota House District 42A seat currently held by Rep. Barb Yarusso.

• The Minnesota House District 41B seat currently held by Rep. Jason Isaacson.

• The Ramsey County Board of Commissioners seats held by District 1 Commissioner Blake Huffman and District 2 Commissioner Mary Jo McGuire. 

• The Arden Hills City Council seats currently held by council members Brenda Holden, Dave McClung and Jonathan Wicklund.

• The Mounds View City Council seats currently held by Mayor Joe Flaherty and council members Sherry Gunn and Gary Meehlhause.

• The New Brighton City Council seats currently held by council members Gina Bauman and Brian Strub.

• The Shoreview City Council seats currently held by Mayor Sandy Martin and council members Emy Johnson and Ady Wickstrom.

Those interested in filing an Affidavit of Candidacy can find the proper paperwork online through Ramsey County Elections and through the Secretary of State’s office. Candidates for the U.S. House may only file through the Secretary of State. 

There is a filing fee for all positions, ranging from $5-$100 in most cases.
