Not so sweet assault in Little Canada

Arrests, Thefts and more around Falcon Heights, Lauderdale, Little Canada, and Roseville - Roseville Review police reports May 10, 2016.

Falcon Heights

Theft

A 37-year-old man reported one of his two license plates stolen off his vehicle that was parked in the 1400 block of Iowa Ave April 18. Now short of a full set, police advised him to buy new license plates, while the old ones will be categorized as stolen.

A pair of teenagers attempted to boost handfuls of electronic cigarettes from the SuperAmerica in the 1300 block of Larpenteur Avenue April 19 — the kids reached right over the counter to snatch them. An employee grabbed the arm of one of the teens, prompting the kids to drop most of the e-cig haul. In all, the thieves only got away with one pack, valued at $5.

Valuables visible in vehicles are a target for opportunistic thieves — a 36-year-old woman found this out the hard way when a scofflaw smashed a window out of her car parked at a restaurant in the 1500 block of Larpenteur Avenue April 22 and made off with a suitcase, valued at $800.

Lauderdale

More details on a recent robbery

A man robbed the BP store in the 2400 block of Larpenteur Avenue April 19 and was caught shortly thereafter, as reported in the April 26 edition of the Review — police have released more details about the robbery. The robber approached the counter supposedly to buy items, but once there, he demanded the products, the money in the cash register and the car keys of the employee working the counter be put in a bag, insinuating he had a gun. The employee handed over cash and the items but not the keys. The man fled on foot and police shortly caught up with him. The man, a 37-year-old, was arrested and booked at the Ramsey County Jail on charges of second-degree aggravated robbery and for an outstanding felony warrant related to a different second-degree robbery. The gas station reported a loss of approximately $179, which was recovered from the suspect.

Little Canada

Not so sweet assault

Things got weird April 30 at Flameburger in the 2500 block of Rice Street. Staff told police that in the wee morning hours, a man in his 30s, believing he’d been shorted an order of chicken wings, angrily threw a heavy glass sugar container at a female server, who’d just brought the man his food. While the server would like to press charges against the man, he ran off, and police have yet to track him down.

Assault

Two “extremely intoxicated” men, ages 66 and a 57, got into it at an apartment complex in the 100 block of Little Canada Road April 27. It was the 57-year-old’s birthday. Police were called after the older man allegedly punched the younger man in the face a number of times, evidently following an argument about the older man dating the younger man’s sister. When police arrived, all three parties were present; the 66-year-old denied doing the punching, but then the two men each started threatening the other’s life. Both were arrested for disorderly conduct, domestic assault and fifth-degree assault.

Attempted arson

Police were called to a business in the 100 block of South Owasso Boulevard May 2 on a report of the discovery of leaves and a flammable liquid that were found the cab of one of the business’s trucks. All signs point to someone wanting to start a fire. The business said this is an ongoing problem.

Bad dogs

Police were called April 30 on a report of two aggressive black labs that were running around and causing trouble in the 3000 block of Edgerton Street. When police arrived they spotted the unruly dogs, but when police tried to apprehend them, they ran away. An animal control officer is looking into things.

Subjective character of experience

Police responded to an apartment complex in the 400 block of Labore Road April 27 on the report that a maroon van had tried to run somebody over. Police tracked down a maroon van and its 77-year-old driver, who was unaware of having attempted to, accidentally or otherwise, run someone down. When police took a look at security footage from the complex, they saw the man in the van and the person who called in the complaint on foot, arguing in the parking lot, but no attempted vehicular assault. While the complainant still wanted to press charges after all this, police advised him that what he wanted to press charges for had to have actually occurred.

Banned from Aldi

A 35-year-old woman, who was banned from being at the Aldi grocery store in the 2300 block of Rice Street for harassing customers, was arrested for trespassing April 31 after she showed up in the store’s parking lot asking people for money.
