In search of woodcocks

On Tuesday, April 26, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. come learn about an amazing woodland bird with mysterious courtship rituals and quirky appearance. Following a brief PowerPoint presentation, participants will search for this enchanting creature at Dodge Nature Center, 365 Marie Ave. W., West St. Paul. Bring your binoculars and wear shoes/boots that can get muddy. Pre-registration is required and cost is $7. Call 651-455-4531 for more information. 

 

Inver Glen library events

Inver Glen Library, 8098 Blaine Ave., Inver Grove Heights, will have its Young Writers Group on Tuesday April 26, from 3 to 4 p.m. Teen writers will do inspiring writing exercises, share feedback, be creative and have fun. The group is for ages 10 to 16.

Inver Glen’s next storytime for all ages will be on Thursday, April 28, from 10:30 to 11 a.m. Join others for songs and stories.

Time capsule open house

Somerset Elementary School, 1355 Dodd Road, Mendota Heights, is planning an open house on Saturday, April 30. The school is celebrating 20 years since it buried a time capsule in 1996. The community is invited to tour Somerset from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., and view the contents of the recently opened time capsule.

Former principal Don Moore and current principal Joni Hagebock will offer remarks at 11:30 a.m. Attendees are encouraged to bring a picnic lunch and socialize with Somerset friends and family.

 

Survivor Breakfast

Are you a cancer survivor? Do you know a cancer survivor? Relay for Life IGH-SSP-WSP is holding its annual Survivor Breakfast on Saturday, April 30, at Bethesda Lutheran Church, 2855 47th St. E., Inver Grove Heights, from 9 to 10:30 a.m. 

This is a complimentary breakfast for survivors. All others are freewill donation. Email Sara Eberhardt at sara.eberhardt@cancer.org to RSVP.

 

Mississippi Valley Orchestra concert

The Mississippi Valley Orchestra, under the direction of Maestro Henry Charles Smith, will present a concert “Master Preludes” on Sunday, May 1, at 3 p.m. at Augustana Lutheran Church, 1400 S Robert St., in West St Paul. 

Although admission is free, there will be a suggested donation of $15.

 

Class reunion

Humboldt High School Class of 1946 is planning its 70th class reunion on Saturday, June 10, at 11 a.m. at Cherokee Tavern, 886 S. Smith Ave., located on the West Side of St Paul. Contact Bob Backlund at 952-249-2824 for more information and to volunteer in the planning.

 

Quilt show

The Dakota County Star Quilters group is hosting its 21st annual quilt show at the Dakota County Historical Society Museum, 130 3rd Ave N., in South St. Paul. 

The show, “Legal in All 50 States,” runs through May 6 during the hours the museum is open: Wednesdays and Fridays 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Thursdays 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Saturdays 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. 

The show features over 120 quilts, and includes a small quilt auction, quilt show boutique and multiple challenge quilts. 

Suggested museum donation to view the show is $3.
