The fraud was coming from inside the workhouse!

Arrests, Thefts and more around Falcon Heights, Lauderdale, Little Canada, and Roseville - Roseville Review police reports April 19, 2016.

Falcon Heights

Assault at Lauderdale
apartment complex

A woman was assaulted in the entry area of an apartment complex in the 1500 block of Eustis Street in Lauderdale the night of April 13.

According to police, as she approached the building, a car sped into the parking lot of the apartment complex. Two men got out of the car, yelling at her to stop. They followed her into the entryway of the building — one of the men blocked the woman from moving while another grabbed her, spinning her around. The victim hit her head on a doorframe.

The assailants fled when the woman yelled for help and it appeared another resident was coming.

The victim described the men to police: One suspect was described as a roughly 25-year-old, 5-foot 8-inch tall black man with short dreadlocks and a heavy build. The other suspect was described as a roughly 25-years-old, 6-foot tall black man with long straight hair and a slender build. The suspects’ car was described as dark, possibly black. Anyone with information about the assault should contact the St. Anthony Police Department at 612-782-3550 or Ramsey County Dispatch at 651-767-0648.

Arrest

A valid driver’s license is typically de rigueur for, you know, driving, but scofflaws come in all types: On March 28, a 61-year-old man was arrested and cited at Larpenteur and Cleveland avenues for driving with a cancelled license and for speeding. On March 29, a 37-year-old man was arrested and cited at Snelling and Larpenteur avenues for driving with a revoked license. Also on March 29, a 23-year-old woman was arrested and cited at Snelling and Garden avenues for driving with a cancelled license. On April 1, a 35-year-old woman was arrested and cited at Larpenteur and Hamline avenues for driving with a revoked license, as well as for no proof of insurance and failure to transfer a car title.

Burglary

In fewer than three weeks a dental office has been broken into twice. The first was on March 12; the most recent time, reported April 1, an employee told police someone forced their way into the office and stole roughly $250-$300 in cash.

Lauderdale

Arrest

At Larpenteur Avenue and Malvern Street a 23-year-old woman from Falcon Heights was arrested for DWI. On the scene she blew a .15. That reading bought her a trip to the Ramsey County Jail, where she was booked on fourth-degree misdemeanor DWI and fourth-degree alcohol concentration over .08, having been nearly twice over the legal limit.

Fast, furious, arrested, cited

Nothing like some Sunday evening street racing — police evidently observed a couple of races in the area of Highway 280 and Larpenteur Avenue April 3. In one incident, a 24-year-old man and a 20-year-old man were arrested and cited for reckless driving. For the other, the arrests and citations for reckless driving went to a 31-year-old man and a 25-year-old man. They must drag race by age groups.

Little Canada

Arrest

Police responded to a report of people stealing from cars April 6 in the 100 block of Little Canada Road — they showed up to an apartment complex there and were told that four men had fled on foot from the scene. In short order, deputies caught up with two of the men. A second call came in to report another break-in to a car in the area, and police used that information to arrest a third suspect; they have the identity of the fourth. The men were allegedly two 20-year-olds from Little Canada, a 19-year-old from Roseville and a 24-year-old from Blaine. The last two were cited for possession and sale of a small amount of marijuana; all four have pending charges for theft from auto. The case was turned over to the narcotics and gang investigative units.

Criminal property
damage

The driver of a U-Haul truck was caught on tape in a hit-and-run incident involving a gate April 5 in the first block of County Road B. Police viewed the tape and tracked down the truck rental business, which turned over information about the bad driver, who allegedly caused an estimated $1,000 worth of damage.

Fraud

A 25-year-old woman who lives in the 2400 block of Rice Street reported to police April 10 that she was the unwilling participant in an illicit multi-store Wal-Mart shopping spree. Someone used her bank card — while it was still snugly in her wallet — to buy $44 worth of stuff at the Wal-Mart in Bloomington, $76 worth at Wal-Mart Apple Valley and a whopping $170 worth of goods at Wal-Mart Burnsville. The woman set up a new account; police think someone duplicated or cloned her debit card.

The fraud was coming from inside the county workhouse!

A man who lives in the 2700 block of Edgerton Street reported to police April 12 that a bank card ordered by his mother in January never showed up — neither he nor Mom ever saw it. Fast forward to March 30, and $495 worth of fraudulent transactions appeared on the account connected to the phantom card. Police tracked the charges to someone who is currently spending some time in the Ramsey County Workhouse, which is operated by Ramsey County Corrections Department. Said suspect is incarcerated at the workhouse through May 20 and, for the time being, their bank account has been frozen so police can try to track down the missing money.

Theft by swindle

Please note: You can’t sell your 2006 Nissan if there is a lien on your car loan. A 30-year-old woman from Oakdale was reminded of this principle April 11, after the 23-year-old Little Canada woman to whom she sold the car alerted police.
